Trevor Vaugh
Founder / Managing Partner
Trevor Vaugh is a founding partner of Actionable Innovation, an assistant Professor of Design innovation at Maynooth University and Principal Investigator in the Maynooth University Innovation Lab (Mi:Lab). Mi:Lab is a HEA funded design-led lab, formed to explore and tackle higher education system challenges. Trevor is an expert in the Design-driven innovation process, and regularly works with public and private organisations in this area.
Prior to entering Academia, Trevor developed a number of radical and disruptive surgical innovations for global medical device manufacturers, among these, his work on single-site surgery for Olympus, helped see it named in the Cleveland Clinic's top 10 innovations of 2009.
Across his innovation career, Trevor has accumulated a portfolio of over 50 patents. Through his consulting work with Actionable, Trevor merges the theory and practice of Design, Anthropology, and Strategy, to help organisations navigate uncertainty and grow through human insight and discovery. Trevor was recently selected to be one of six experts on RTE’s new innovation series ‘The Big Life Fix’ which aired to critical acclaim in March 2020.
Martin Ryan
Founder / Managing Partner
Martin is a multi-award winning designer, entrepreneur and co-founder of Actionable. In 2005 Martin invented the world's first cantilevered saddle – A revolutionary equestrian saddle which he conceived and developed to improve performance and comfort for horse and rider. On launch, the saddle quickly established a customer base in 15 countries and successfully introduced a new paradigm to equestrian sports, celebrated by prominent international media.
Today, Martin holds a particular passion in working with ambitious companies seeking to set new standards in their market. Martin advises towards embedding innovation capabilities, building consumer insight and delivering breakthrough innovation in product and services. To this end Martin has acclaimed a number of awards notably including; the JEC World Innovation Award (Paris), Dyson Design Award and ISPO Volvo sport Design Award finalist (Munich).
Beyond consultancy, Martin is a member of faculty at the Department of Design Innovation at Maynooth University and programme director for the BSc. in Product Design and co-editor of Iterations design journal.
